GENERAL QUESTIONS

How many tuxedo styles do you carry?
DuBois currently has 50 different coat styles, 10 pant options, 13 shirt styles, hundreds of vests styles and colors, and 11 shoe styles. We also have various styles of studs, cufflinks, and other accessories available either for rent or purchase. You can view most of our tuxedo selections by visiting our formalwear gallery. Our associates will be happy to help you choose the formalwear for your event.

What distinguishes one tuxedo from another?
Some of the differences in tuxedos are color, number of buttons, length (regular, long length or tails) and lapel. The three most popular lapels are notch, peak, and shawl. Mandarin or stand-up collars are more trendy styles. Another difference is the ‘cut’ of the tuxedo. What this refers to is the way the shoulders, back and mid-section for the tuxedo are tailored. A ‘traditional’ tuxedo cut is more fitted than a ‘contemporary’ or ‘oversize’ style, which has larger arm holes and wider shoulders.

What sizes do you have available?
Most of our rental tuxedos are available in boy’s sizes 3 to 18 and men’s sizes 34 to 60. Smaller tuxedos are available to purchase in sizes 18 months – 2 Toddler. If you need a larger size than what we carry, we can usually order it in for you. Our associates will inform you of what tuxedo styles work best on certain body shapes.

We recommend trying on the tuxedo in the store when you pick up. This way, any last minute alterations can be taken care of immediately.

When is the tuxedo rental due back?
Depending on the time of year, your rental should be returned one to two days following your event. Your sales associate will let you know when to return your tuxedo when you pick it up.

Do I need to make an appointment for my tuxedo fitting?
Appointments are not required for fittings. However, if you can schedule some time during the day or early in the week, we are generally less busy during these times. The later part of the week is usually busier with pick ups.

How long will take for the tuxedo fitting?
It only takes about five minutes for the first fitting. It simply involves a few measurements and possibly a couple try-ons. When you come in to be sized, we recommend not wearing heavy clothing such as sweaters, sweatshirts or multiple shirts. If you must wear several layers, it is very helpful if you have a t-shirt on underneath so you can take them off for some of the measurements.

What measurements will you be taking?
Some of the measurements we take are your neck and sleeve for the shirt size, your waist and out-seam measurements for your trouser size, and your chest/overarm to determine your coat size. We will also ask your height and weight, and have you try on our tuxedo shoes (if available). These measurements aren’t always a guarantee that everything will fit perfectly. They are used as guidelines to choose the best fit for you. You will still need to come in for a final fitting.

What is the final fitting?
The final fitting is usually one or two days prior to the event date. This is when you come in and try on your actual tuxedo. This way if you need any changes or alterations, we can take care of it right away. If we need to order a new item, we can get it to you no later than the next day.

What if I take my tuxedo home, and it doesn’t fit or there is a problem?
If you notice a problem with your tuxedo, please contact our store as soon as possible. We will make every effort to correct it. If you have having difficulty with the tuxedo fitting properly, see our ‘Fitting Tips’ page for a few helpful hints.

How do I register my wedding tuxedos?
First, you need to decide what you want to wear. This is the most difficult part because there are so many options available. Next, you will ‘register’ your wedding with any DuBois retail location or authorized dealer. When you register, you will need to list some basic information such as the wedding date, who is standing up in the wedding, and what you want everyone to wear. Then the guys will need to stop in to be measured for their tuxedos (the sooner the better, we recommend at least one month ahead of time). And finally, the Thursday or Friday before the wedding, the guys pick up their tuxedos and have a final fitting to make sure everything looks great.

When should we choose the formalwear for our wedding?
Most couples choose their formalwear after the Bride has purchased her dress and selected the bridesmaid gown colors. The earlier you register, the easier it is for your groomsmen to order their tuxedos on time. Some people know what they want a year ahead of time, while others wait until a month or so before the wedding. The average is probably about three months, and we recommend about 5 to 6 weeks prior to your wedding/event.

Do all the men in my wedding party need to wear tuxedos?
Traditionally, the Groom, Best Man, Ushers, Groomsmen, Ring Bearers and Fathers wear a tuxedo. You might also want to rent a tuxedo or suit for the Fathers and Grandfathers. Your pictures will be a treasure in years to come when everyone looks their best!

What kind of tuxedos should we wear?
What the wedding party will wear depends largely on the theme of the wedding, season, location, and most of all, personal preferences. You should choose styles you will like to view in your wedding photos twenty years from now. Traditionally, the groom will wear something slightly different than the rest of the gentlemen to set himself apart. The groomsmen often wear vests and ties to compliment the bridesmaid gowns. If you have special requests or concerns, discuss these with any of our associates.

When does everyone need to be fitted?
We recommend everyone is fitted at least 5 weeks before the wedding. However, this time might vary according to your wedding party’s particular needs. Our associate will discuss this with you during the registration.

Do you have any specials going on right now?

Should I wear a tuxedo to my Prom / Homecoming?
Your school might have certain restrictions or dress codes, but in most cases, it is accepted and appreciated if the young men wear tuxedos to their school dance. This is especially important if their date is wearing a formal gown. The men should match the lady’s level of formality. DuBois offers many affordable and elegant options for your school event.

How do I order a tuxedo for my school dance?
All you need to do is stop by any DuBois location and pick out your tuxedo and accessories. Then we will take a few measurements and reserve the styles of your choice. A $25 deposit is required to order your tuxedo.

When should I get fitted my prom/homecoming tuxedo?
We recommend at least one week prior to the dance, but keep in mind, tuxedo orders are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Come in early to reserve your first choice! We can accommodate last minute orders as well, up to the same day in some areas.

Do I have to match my date’s gown?
Though it’s not required, it is fun to coordinate the vest color with your date’s gown. You don’t want to clash with her dress in your pictures. We offer many different colors and patterns which were carefully chosen to match a wide variety of gowns. If it’s difficult to match the gown, go with a neutral such as black, white, or silver.

When do I need to pick up and return my tuxedo?
You will be able pick up and try on your tuxedo the day before the dance, unless other arrangements have been made. Usually, tuxedo rentals need to be returned by 2:00 pm the day after your event. Your formalwear associate will inform you of the exact return date and time when you pick up your tuxedo.

What is a ‘Black Tie’ event?
Black Tie or Black Tie Invited – You will wear a tuxedo, which is comfortable to the time of year. The traditional look is a black tuxedo worn with a white shirt, black or dark colored vest or cummerbund and matching tie. This does not restrict you to wearing black accessories. Contemporary vests or cummerbunds are also appropriate. Optional accessories include a pocket square or boutonniere.

What is a ‘White Tie’ event?
For a White Tie event, you will wear the most formal attire. Wear a black full dress tailcoat with matching formal trousers, a white pique wing collar shirt, white vest and bow tie. Optional accessories include a pocket square, boutonniere, black top hat, cane and white gloves.

Should I rent or purchase a tuxedo?
The general rule is if you plan on wearing a tuxedo to social events more than once a year, you should consider purchasing your own tuxedo. We have many styles available for purchase. See any associate for details.

Do you offer any special pricing or discounts for fund-raising events?
Yes, we will offer special pricing on most fund raising events, and we often donate $5 per tuxedo rental to the charity that holds the event. The event coordinator should contact the DuBois corporate office in Green Bay at (800) 236-7303 to determine the details.

Do I need to rent a tuxedo for my cruise?
It is a very good idea to rent a tuxedo from DuBois if you are going on a cruise that has a formal night. When you choose your tuxedo ahead of time, your tuxedo will fit correctly and you will be able to coordinate your vest and tie with your date’s attire. The cost depends on the style you choose. DuBois includes an additional shirt rental free of charge on any cruise order, as well as cruise specials during the months of November through March.

Do you rent / sell suits?
Yes! We have a black suit available for rental or purchase. This can be worn to formal events, dances, or whenever a suit is required. Renting is a great option for men who don’t need or want to purchase a suit. Our suit rentals are reasonably priced and cost much less than if you were to purchase an entire suit from a menswear shop.
